Keeping Relevant

This week the class mainly focused on how to keep our websites relevant and at the top of customer searches. We have learned about two tools we can use to do this. The tools we used were Quality Score by Google and Google Analytics.

Quality Score is really simple and easy to use and understand. Quality Score tool can be found in Google Ads and it measures, from a scale 1-10, how well your ad is compared to others. It looks at your expected clickthrough rate, which shows how many people have clicked on your site, ad relevance making sure it is relevant to what customers are looking for, and landing page experience which means how customers like your website. With the knowledge from your quality score you can reduce the cost per click, you can gain a better position on Google, and you'll be able to show ad extensions, which are extensions to your webpage. I loved learning about this tool because it helped me focus on my keywords to better stand out among my competitors.

The next tool is Google Analytics. Now this tool is very useful as it studies your customers when they are on your webpage. To get Google Analytics you will have to set up a Google Analytics account, if you don't already have one, which you can do by going to the Admin section of clicking "Create Account". Once that is done you click "Create Property" enter in your business name then go to Data Stream. With Data Stream you will pick where you want your data collected from. Data can be collected for the web, iOS and Android apps. For me, I chose web because I know everyone uses the web no matter what so my data collecting would be better from there. It also might depend on if you have any apps. I don't have apps for my business so that is another reason I didn't chose iOS app and Android app. However, I am unsure if that is what it means by iOS and Android apps. Once you select a platform, Google Analytics will create a tracking ID and Google Tag. To get Google Analytics to work for your website you will need to copy the entire Google Tag and paste it to your website by "posting the code after the opening <head> tag" that is on each page of your website. That way Google Analytics can track all your website pages. For me, I just copied and pasted the code to track my homepage because that is where all my products are. I may have to do some re-designing for my website, which is ok because I am still learning and trying to get the hang of everything.

Now to link your Google Analytics to your ad you have to go to your Google Ads accounts and follow the instructions below:

  1. Click Tools
  2. Click Linked Account
  3. Go to From Google and find Google Analytics, then click Details
  4. In Actions column click Link

That should get you linked and set up so Google Analytics can start monitoring your page.

I want to add that when setting up Google Analytics you might want to do a little more research to make sure you set it up right, like watching YouTube tutorials. For me just following the written instructions I found myself confused and it was really difficult for me. I may have had a hard time because sometimes reading doesn't help understand certain things so I like to be shown how to do it, especially when I am trying to do something I am not familiar with. However, I did get it set up and tested it to make sure it actually worked, so I would recommend you test your Google Analytics when you are done setting it up.

Now that you know about these tools, you can use them to better your site and keep it relevant. As I have stated before these tools help you develop your ad and website to be better than your competitors and to be on the top when someone searches something that you sell. Quality score helps identify how to improve your keywords and how well your site is doing by looking at how many clicks you get. Google Analytics helps you see what customers are doing on your website like how much time they spend on a certain page, what are they interested in, and what their shopping habits and behavior is like so you can make your adjustments to really engage with customers so they end up buying your product or service.

Good luck on setting up everything and I hope the tools help your business grow.
