Setting Up the Website

I finally get to set up my website!!! There is still research involved, but you get to take what you researched and then apply it to your website. This week I learned about designs for a website and setting up transaction payments so customers can pay for the items I provide.

Now before I get into designing a website and having payment plans, I want to let you know that I switched up my idea. I was going to do a dog sitting service, but my teacher made a video and said that with a business you need passion and priority to make a profit. That is when I decided I want to actually sell dog products with natural ingredients because people who have pets want the best for them. I have a passion for taking care of animals and I know a lot of people do too and they want the best for them. I think making more natural products available and easy to find from using my website that I can help pet owners give the best to their pets. Changing what my business is kind changed how I wanted my website to look like.

Going back to learning about designs, I looked at different popular templates designs, provided by my teacher, and then I looked up myself websites that sold pet products. From that research I found that most websites had big pictures that took up the top of the screen, the tab bars were on the top and some tabs had drop down arrows to narrow down the search, they had an about us section, and shopping cart section, and a social media section where it showed the people using their products. I thought the social media section was a great idea because it builds credibility when competing with other businesses that create pet products.

For my website I am following the designs I have seen. I went to my website builder and started designing my website. I used a full image to cover the screen, I added a shopping cart, I created my tabs and an "About Us" section. I'm not going to add a social media part to my website because I am not going to be making the products, I am just going to sell them.

To the right shows what I have set up. I am still working on it, as I have to finish setting up my tabs. But I did go off of popular designs that I saw.

The next part of the class we learned about PayPal and using their buttons like "Add to Cart" or "Buy Now". Using PayPal is a really good method that a lot of businesses use. When doing my research I found that PayPal really allows anyone to buy from your site, however, there can be some issues. I have to make sure PayPal can be used on my server and I have to

always look at updates to make sure the updates don't mess up my payment system and I have to have a PayPal account to actually receive the payments. To me, that really isn't so bad so I am still fine with using PayPal and will most likely be using them. As for what button to use I am going to use the "Add to Cart" button because for me it allows customers to pick and item and continue shopping and they will be able to remove items if they change their minds. I am currently still figuring out how to set it up for my website. (I am doing as I am learning).

When it comes to designing your own website look at other websites close to what you will be selling or offering for your business. Take those designs and make it your own. And if your selling products see what PayPal button is best for you. If people need to pick and continue shopping use because you provide options then use "Add to Cart". If you don't have a lot of options, like you made something yourself and it is the only option you provide, then try the "Buy Now" button. If you provide a service try finding a system that allows customers to book an appointment.

This is where the fun begins and it will continue as I improve my website by getting everything set up and ready to take on the world. You will have a fun time with designing and setting up certain functions to your website and soon you will also be ready to go public and share your greatness to the world.
